Introducing the Constitutional Theory Monitor
Welcome to the Constitutional Theory Monitor!
This initiative is meant to be a forum that highlights (and, in some cases, discusses) manifestations of issues in constitutional theory in practice, with a focus on inter-institutional dynamics between the political branches and the judiciary in democratic and federal societies. For context, this is coming from the perspective of a Canadian working and living in the Antipodes.
The aim is twofold. First, it will bring to light developments in constitutional practice that may be of interest to constitutional theorists. Second, it will place developments in constitutional practice in theoretical perspective in a manner that may be of interest to constitutional lawyers, politicians, and the media, among others.
The Monitor will likely evolve over time. At the outset, however, subscribers can expect to receive a monthly post highlighting a development in constitutional practice that has links to elements of constitutional theory. In the short- to medium-term, subscribers can expect a focus on the Canadian context, where inter-institutional dynamics between the political branches and the judiciary have increased in salience. Over time, this may come to include posts from guest contributors and symposia focusing on particular developments, among other things.
Stay tuned!
